  • The Union Environment Ministry issued the seventh draft notification declaring 56,825.7 sq km of the Western Ghats across six states as an Ecologically Sensitive Area on 27 July 2026.

  • A new polypore fungus species, Microporellus kolhapurensis, was discovered on rotting wood in Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, and published in BSI's journal Nelumbo.

  • The government approved RBI’s proposal for field trials of 1 billion polymer notes each of ₹10 and ₹20, which last longer, resist moisture and dirt, offer better security and lower replacement costs while paper notes continue.

  • Delhi Cabinet approved Lakshmi Yojana providing ₹2,500 monthly DBT assistance to over 17 lakh eligible women aged 21–60 with family income ≤ ₹2.5 lakh, with ₹5,110 crore budget for 2026–27 and registration starting 1 August 2026.

  • Scientists discovered a new freshwater shrimp species, Caridina sharmai, in the Gomti River at Lucknow.
